Summer (June to August)

This is camping and swimming season. July is the warmest month, averaging 79°F by day and 64°F at night, and August is almost the same. June and July are among the driest months of the year, with under three inches of rain each on average. Summer is when Flax and Cliff ponds see the most swimmers.

July nights average in the mid-60s, so pack a warm layer. If a thunderstorm comes through, get off the water and away from the beach at the first thunder.

Spring (March to May)

Spring warms slowly. May averages 62°F by day and 48°F at night. The campground opens in mid-April (the 2026 season ran April 16 to October 25, 2026), so early-season campers should expect nights near 39°F in April. Spring is also when the stocked trout ponds fish best from shore (see fishing).

Fall (September to November)

September is still warm, averaging 71°F by day, warmer than June at night. October cools to 61°F and 47°F, and rain picks up through November.

Winter (December to February)

Winter is cold. January averages 39°F and 26°F. December is the wettest month on average, with 5 inches of precipitation. The campground is closed, but the park is open sunrise to sunset (see hours) for walks, biking and, when the ponds freeze, skating and ice fishing.
